Desk (Bangladeshtime): United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called to investigate into all allegations of Dhaka and Chittagong City Corporations polls.
UN Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said this in a press briefing on Tuesday.
“He encourages the competent authorities to investigate all allegations and the opposition to use the democratic institutions to express its concerns,” Farhan said.
“The Secretary-General is aware of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s decision to boycott the Dhaka and Chittagong elections amid allegations of electoral fraud.”
“He appeals to all parties to express their differences through peaceful means. The Secretary‑General reiterates his call on all political leaders to find a peaceful resolution to the current situation,” he added.
Almost the entire of the political opposition rejected the city corporation polls in Dhaka and Chittagong alleging widespread rigging.
The voting was held on Tuesday amid widespread vote rigging, even journalists get beaten up and media was blocked to cover the election result.
Meanwhile, US and UK have already expressed their disappointment for vote rigging and violence.
