Desk : President Abdul Hamid has urged people of all religions to further strengthen the existing fraternity and friendly bonding with a view to applying it for achieving national advancement and prosperity, reports the BSS.
"Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. The people of this country have a strong belief in unity and secularism. We have to foster the existing brotherly and friendly relations for achieving progress and prosperity of the country," the President said while exchanging greetings with members of the Hindu community at a reception.
The President hosted the reception at Bangabhaban here on the occasion of Janmastami, the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna.
The prime ideal of Sri Krishna was to build real love and harmony among the people removing clashes from the society, he said, adding that Sri Krishna, throughout his life, had searched the path of emancipation of the humanity.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahaman and Awami League Presidium Member Satish Chandra Roy, distinguished fellow of CPD Debapriya Bhattachariya, singer Subir Nandi, renowned physicians Samanta Lal Sen and Arup Ratan Chowdhury were present in the reception.
Besides, Hindu religious personalities, leaders of the community and people from various professions of the community joined the reception.
The President welcomed the guests to Bangabhaban and exchanged greetings with them.
